1968

  • February 5-6. The Monkees' Peter Tork stupidly sells his soul to "Mr. Zero", a minor demon posing as both a pawn shop owner and Lucifer, for a harp and skill at playing it. When the demon comes to collect, the other Monkees Mike Nesmith, Davy Jones, and Micky Dolenz challenge the contract, and demand a trial. Mike successfully defends Peter's apparently inherent skill at the harp, and the court sides with Peter.1
  • The Doctor (sixth incarnation) drops Henry Gordon Jago and George Litefoot (both from 1893) off in the wrong time. They soon are reunited with a surviving Ellie Higson, who helps them set up their lives in this time.2
  • February 29. In lieu of execution for a crime he didn't commit, Air Force Captain Nathaniel Adam (30) participates in an experimental flight testing a nuclear weapon. When the bomb detonates, Adam disintegrates.
  • March 13-14. After inexplicably standing up for the honor of a Volkswagen Beetle (4), down on his luck race car driver Jim Douglas is forced to buy it. He learns it is alive, and they become partners. He names it Herbie.

March 21. Jason Strongbow is born in Kaibito, Arizona, United States.

  • March 30. Aegis agent Gary Seven () meets Roberta Lincoln () for the first time, and hires her as his assistant. Seven and Lincoln manage to prevent the United States from causing nuclear Armageddon with an orbital nuclear platform. They manage to do this despite the time-traveling interference of Captain James Kirk and the Enterprise crew (all 2268).3
  • April 4. In Memphis, civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (39) is assassinated.4

Police Detective Sergeant Dave Sacker investigates a woman's disappearance, and meets Henry Gordon Jago and George Litefoot, temporal refugees from 1893, and their friend Ellie Higson, an immortal pseudo-vampire. After learning of their pasts, Sacker and the threesome continue the investigation, leading them to uncover a conspiracy by a back-to-Victorian values group. When the cult tries to use an Indian statue to mind-control all of the UK via a television broadcast, Jago smashes the statue, saving the day.
May 19. Mariah Monmouth is murdered by John Oldcastle. He takes her orphan son Harry (8) and begins training him as a thief.
May 31 (Friday). The Doctor (second incarnation), Jamie McCrimmon (26), and Zoe Heriot (20/2079) arrive in England, and have an encounter with organized crime and a memory crystal.
June 3 (Monday). The Doctor (eighth incarnation), Sam Jones (1997) and Iris Wildthyme (fourth incarnation) are on hand as artist Andy Warhol is shot and nearly killed.
Henry Gordon Jago is pulled into an Indian guru's machinations, and gets implanted with tadpoles. George Litefoot and Ellie Higson work to save him, ridding him of his infestation, and destroying the deadly frog menace.
July. The Doctor (fifth incarnation) and Nyssa travel to this era to investigate a threat to the music on Concordium in the future. The Entropy Sirens, who dwell in chaos, attempt to use music to plunge all time into chaos, but the Doctor uses the two eras' sonic output to cancel each other out.
Birdman (31) discovers a boy, Timothy Byrd (13), in a raft fighting off sharks. He rescues the boy, and restores him by infusing him with is solar energies. The boy finds himself partially amnesiac, unable to remember his own name. Birdman adopts him as the Birdboy.

  • September 21. Los Angeles police officer Pete Malloy () begins what he plans to be his last day on the force, having been unable to handle the death of his partner three weeks earlier. He is assigned a new partner that day, in rookie cop Jim Reed (23). The day proves eventful, as the pair, in car 1-Adam-12, first catch armed robbers after a car chase, Malloy uses CPR to resuscitate a child who had stopped breathing, and Reed disobeys Malloy in order to catch Neo-Nazis having a shootout. Malloy decides to remain on the force to help guide Reed.5

Henry Gordon Jago, George Litefoot, and Ellie Higson are confronted with various lethal parties searching for a book that brings about immortality, the Bloodchild Codex. It consumes two of its seekers, bringing about the resurrection of its creator, Bloodchild, in a ghastly form. Jago and Litefoot succeed in destroying it.

  • Late October-Early November. In the days leading up to the presidential election, Maude Hilliard finds herself in love with her new boyfriend Walter Findlay. Afraid of the risk of having a fourth marriage, she asks Walter to move in with her. He wants to get married instead, and they have a fight, breaking up for a while. Walter misses Maude and agrees to move in, and after another fight, they agree to get married.6

Early November. The TARDIS arrives in England with the Doctor (second incarnation), Jamie McCrimmon (25), and Zoe Heriot (19/2079). They are reunited with Brigadier Alistair Lethbridge-Stewart, and meet Corporal John Benton. They uncover a Cyberman conspiracy led by electronics magnate Tobias Vaughn. Earth is for a time subdued by the Cybermen, but in the end, with the help of the betrayed Vaughn, the Cybermen are defeated by the Doctor and his allies.

  • November 5. Republican and former Vice President Richard Nixon is elected President of the United States, defeating incumbent Vice President Hubert Humphrey, as well as Independent Party candidate George Wallace (49).7

November 11 (Monday). Guinevere Godiva's plan hits fruition, as she and the homunculus Mr. Sin abduct Ellie Higson in order to force Henry Gordon Jago to give over his Venus crystal in a scheme to revive Magnus Greel. Greel revives in the body of Detective Dave Sacker, but he, Godiva, and Mr. Sin perish in the confrontation, and Ellie's immortality curse may finally be broken. Greel's time travel box activates, allowing Jago and George Litefoot to return to their own time.
