  • January 4. The Utah Territory is admitted to the United States as the state of Utah, the forty-fifth state of the Union.1
  • Wainwright Burns takes his grandson Charles Montgomery (5) under his care. He inadvertently leaves his stuffed bear Bobo behind.2
  • November 3. Republican candidate former Ohio Governor William McKinley (54) defeats Democratic candidate and former Nebraska congressman William Jennings Bryan in the United States presidential election.3

  • February 15. The USS Maine is sunk in a mysterious explosion. This is blamed by American "yellow" journalists on Spain.6

March 10. The gargoyles later named Una, Leo, and Griff hatch outside London, England, United Kingdom.
April 23. Spain declares war on the United States, beginning the Spanish-American War.
June 13. The Yukon Territory is carved from the Northwest Territories in Canada.
July 4. The United States formally annexes the Republic of Hawaii, renaming it the Territory of Hawaii.
August 12. The United States and Spain end their hostilities in the Treaty of Paris. Spain cedes all of its overseas territory outside of Africa, including Guam, the Philippines, Cuba, and Puerto Rico, to the United States. The Tans Philippines, Cuba (378), Puerto Rico, and Guam move into America's (260) house.

  • February 3. Edward Elric is born to Trisha Elric () and Van Hohenheim () in Resembool, Amestris.

February 28. Kara Zor-L is born on Krypton in AQR12.
April 4. Johann Shmidt is born to Martha and Hermann Shmidt in Germany. His mother dies in childbirth, and his father tries to drown the infant. The doctor saves his life.
April 5. Hermann Shmidt commits suicide.
May 17. Queen Victoria (79) arrives in Torchwood London for an inspection. At the same time, an alien creature escapes, turning the young aged as it absorbs youth from its victims, including Torchwood London's head, Archie. Queen Victoria and Jack Harkness (168) track the monster through London, and Queen Victoria learns Jack's value and her own love of adventure, and regrets her own aging.[1]
July 1. Anna and Henry Jones's () son, Henry Walton Jones Jr., is born.
Jonah Hex (62) meets his grown son Jason Hex (23).
Jack Harkness is recruited to the Torchwood organization.
The Time Lord Doctor (eighth incarnation) and Lucie Miller (2006) arrive on a train in Sweden. There they become involved with mysterious art that can endanger reality, bringing them into conflict with The Headhunter and her new PA Karen Coltrane, as both parties want to steal the art. With the help of a living statue, they save a universe within a diamond.
The Doctor (fourth incarnation) and Romana arrive in Victorian London, and encounter the Doctor's old friends Henry Gordon Jago and George Litefoot. They investigate the mysterious vigilante the Pugilist, who has been apparently killing criminals. They track him down as being a justice-obsessed young man who uses an advanced robot from Jalxar that he spruced up to kill criminals. When a young woman becomes the target for the robot, he sacrifices his life to save hers. The Doctor cleverly destroys the robot.
December 26. The Time Lord Doctor (fifth incarnation) and Nyssa attend a show in Stockbridge, England. Strange happenings cause them to take a trip to 1199. After their return, they face a mind-controlled public, and after briefly causing a bubble timeline, stop the explosion of a Rutan ship.

January 13. Alphonse Elric is born to Tricia Elric and Van Hohenheim in Resembool, Amestris.
January 23-24. The Battle of Spion Kop takes place in the second Boer War between the British and the South African Boers. During the battle, the Time Lord Doctor, Steven Taylor (28), and Dodo Chaplet (20/1966) have an encounter with a psionic presence.[2]
January 31. The Dominator who will one day be called Gunther is born.
June 16. Michael Darling is born to Mary (34) and George Darling in London, England, United Kingdom.
July. The TARDIS arrives in the attic of 10 Downing Street in London, which turns out to have been long-term infected with a temporal fungus. The Doctor, Vicki Pallister (18/2494), and Steven Taylor (26/2251) must outwit the insane wait staff to stop them from using the fungus to perpetuate the British Empire through all space-time through the fungus. The Doctor also leaves a different fungus which becomes competition for the temporal fungus, ending its powerful influence.[3]
July 16. A tornado strikes a farm in Kansas, transporting teenager Dorothy Gale (16), her dog Toto (3), and her house to the pocket realm Oz. Her house lands on the Wicked Witch of the East Evanora, who is killed. Dorothy takes the Witch's Ruby Slippers, and after meeting the Good Witch of the North Locasta and being serenaded by the native Munchkins, departs on a quest to reach the Wizard of Oz in the Emerald City, who can help her return home.[4]
July 17. Dorothy Gale and Toto meet a living Scarecrow on the Road to Oz, saving him from crows, and he joins her on her quest, hoping to get a brain from the Wizard.[5]
July 18. Dorothy Gale, the Scarecrow, and Toto encounter the frozen Tin Woodsman Nick Chopper, and after applying oil to his joints, he joins them on their quest, seeking a heart from the Wizard.
July 19. Dorothy Gale, the Scarecrow, Tin Woodsman, and Toto are attacked by a Lion, who turns out to be a coward. He joins them on their quest, hoping to gain true courage from the Wizard.
July 20. Dorothy Gale, the Scarecrow, Tin Woodsman, Cowardly Lion, and Toto are attacked by the flying monkey agents of the Wicked Witch of the West, Theodora (36). The Witch dies when Dorothy accidentally dowses her with water.
July 21. Dorothy Gale and her entourage return to Emerald City, and meet The Wizard, who reveals himself to be a human. After giving totems to the Scarecrow, Tin Woodsman, and Lion, and he and Glinda, the Good Witch of the South, teach Dorothy that the stolen Ruby Slippers are her key to returning home. She and Toto return to Kansas.
August 8. Clarabelle Cow is born in Calisota.
November 5. Eunice Wentworth is born in Chicago, Illinois, United States.
November 6. Incumbent U.S. President William McKinley wins reelection to the presidency, once again defeating Democratic candidate William Jennings Bryan.
November 29. Dorian Gray (38) visits his friend Oscar Wilde (46), who is on his deathbed in a hotel in Paris. While there, Dorian encounters soul-stealing demonic forces, that take the manager, who had been stealing the personal belongings of those the
