  • January 8. An immortal cricket hatches in Tuscany.
  • Rose Tyler (21/2007) briefly meets Madame de Pompadour, and warns her that she is in danger when she turns 37.
  • August 30. Liam Galway () is transformed into the vampire Angelus.

1754

  • May 28. With tensions rising in North America between the French and British colonial empires, a first shot is fired as British colonial forces attack the French Fort Duquesne. The British are led by Major George Washington (23). The British are successful, as they kill 10 French soldiers, including their leader.2

1757

  • August. A group of British soldiers, escorting the daughters of Scottish colonel George Monro (57), Cora and Alice, is ambushed by Huron and French forces. All the British die save for the women and Duncan Heyward, who are rescued by the Mohicans Chingachgook (42) and his son Uncas, and the European-raised-by-natives Natty Bumppo (also called Hawkeye) (37). They manage to get the survivors to Fort William Henry, where they are reunited with General Monro. Cora finds herself sexually stimulated by Hawkeye. The fort is subsequently besieged by the French and the Hurons after betrayal by the double agent and revenge-obsessed Magua. The British parley with the French and negotiate a surrender. They depart the fort, but are ambushed by the Hurons, and a second massacre occurs, with many of the fort's occupants captured. Monro himself is killed by Magua, who cuts out his heart. Hawkeye, Chingachgook, and Uncas manage to survive and attempt to rescue Cora, Alice, and Heyward by meeting with the Huron chief. Ultimately, Uncas dies trying one of the women, leaving Chingachgook Last of the Mohicans. Chingachgook takes revenge by killing Magua. Cora and Hawkeye do not continue their relationship in the aftermath.3

  • The Time Lord Doctor ("tenth" incarnation) rescues Madame de Pompadour from clockwork androids.

1760

  • On Krypton, Val-El is executed for treason due to his sedition against the theocracy. The El family, a noble clan, is stripped of its name and rank. The execution is attended by Val-El's son Ter-El, daughter-in-law Charys, and grandson Seg-El (9).5

  • July 9. Russian Emperor Peter III is overthrown in a bloodless coup. His wife, Catherine II (41), is installed as Empress.

1764

  • April 15. Jeanne-Antoinette Poisson (42), Madame de Pompadour, dies from tuberculosis. The Doctor ("tenth" incarnation) arrives shortly after her death, having failed to take her away from her fate. He meets King Louis XV (54), who gives him a letter she wrote.7
  • The Time Lord Doctor (fourth incarnation) and Sarah Jane Smith (26/1976) visit England, and run into one of the Doctor's old friends, renegade Time Lady Iris Wildthyme (third incarnation). They face an alien were-tiger trying to marry off her daughter. They leave Iris's companion Captain Edwin Turner (27) stranded in the era. He comes to marry the were-tiger.8

  • July 11. John Quincy Adams is born in Braintree, Massachusetts Bay Colony. His father is John Adams.

1768

  • The TARDIS arrives in Venice, and the Hornet Swarm leaves the Doctor (fourth incarnation) to enter a 13-year-old dwarf named Antonio. The Doctor and his wolfhound Captain fail to find him.10
  • September. A British sailing vessel is caught in currents that drag it southward toward the as yet undiscovered Antarctica. As the crew is exposed to colder and colder weather, an albatross appears to them. The albatross appears to lead the ship out of the frigid temperatures. Tom Shelvocke (38), one of the mariners aboard, inexplicably kills the albatross with a crossbow as it lands on the deck.11
  • October. The sailing vessel on which Tom Shelvocke serves drifts into still equatorial waters. The crew begins to die of thirst, and they make Shelvocke wear the body of the albatross around his neck so as to appease any malevolent spirits. Before the crew starts dying, a ghost ship comes alongside. Aboard are Death and Life in Death. They wager, with Death winning the crew and Life in Death winning Shelvocke.12
  • November. After the crew has died off, Tom Shelvocke remains alive aboard his ship, unable to die and now rendered immortal. After finally taking care to love beautiful sea creatures, spirits possess the corpses of the crew and steer it back to the English shore. The ship sinks, and Shelvocke is rescued by some Englishmen in a boat. Shelvocke understands it is his duty to tell his story, and begins wandering.13

1770

  • March. The Doctor's TARDIS arrives on the HMS Endeavour. The Doctor and Ian Chesterton () are forced to join the crew as the TARDIS, carrying Susan Foreman and Barbara Wright (), is thrown overboard. Susan gets the TARDIS to attach to the ship.
  • April 28. The TARDIS crew is reunited as Europeans from Endeavour make first landing on the Australian coast at the soon-to-be-named Botany Bay. The TARDIS departs.
  • December 17. Ludwig van Beethoven is born in Bonn, Cologne electorate, Holy Roman Empire. The Time Lord Doctor (sixth incarnation) is on-hand at his birth.

1772

  • May 20. Rip Van Winkle (36), a villager in the Catskill Mountains, heads into the forest to avoid his wife. He encounters the ghosts of Henry Hudson and his crew playing nine-pins, and they give him something to drink. He falls asleep, his life force sustained by the ghosts.14

1773

1774

  • May 10. Louis XV dies of Smallpox. He is succeeded as King of France by his grandson, Louis XVI.
  • Kandor youth Seg (22) finds himself caught up in politics, as he saves Krypton's Voice of Rao from a suicide bomber member of the group Black Zero. Chief Magistrate Daron-Vex offers Seg the chance to join the House of Vex as a result, hoping to bond his daughter Nyssa to him. After running into the mysterious Adam Strange, Seg finds himself caught up in altercations with the policing force the Saggitarai. Rescued by his mother Charys, he is brought to his grandfather's "Fortress of Solitude". After returning to Kandor, Charys protects Seg by surrendering to the authorities. At the tribunal, Charys is questioned intensely, refusing to name Seg as her accomplice. Seg's father Ter confesses, and he and Charys attack the guards, and are slain by Jayna-Zod. Grief-stricken, Seg runs into Adam Strange again, who warns of the coming of Brainiac and shows him his future grandson's cape, which is temporally unwinding. Seg does not believe him.16
  • Seg begins planning to kill Daron-Vex for his parents' deaths. Returning to the Fortress, Seg activates an A.I. based on Val-El, who informs him of the threat of Brainiac as well. Adam Strange teams up with Seg's friend Kem to get evidence of Brainiac to prevent Seg's vengeful actions. They find Brainiac's probe, and Seg decides he will not kill Daron-Vex, and will join the Science Guild, but not accept admission to the House of Vex.17
  • Lyta-Zod, learning of the upcoming push to root out Black Zero by ransacking the Rankless slums, challenges her superior Quex-Ul to a Kandorian duel to the death, winning and gaining his position.18
  • As the Saggitarai begin raiding the Rankless areas, Seg, Kem, and Adam Strange learn Kem's sister Rhom has been hijacked by the Brainiac probe, transforming her into a techno-organic puppet. Rhom kills several Saggitarai, resulting in an officer, Kol-Da, murdering a Rankless. Lyta-Zod has her arrested. Seg gets a device that disrupts electronics from Lyta, disabling Rhom, and escaping with her.19

1775

  • April 18. Paul Revere (40) rides a horse through various towns to warn of encroaching British soldiers. Hearing Revere's call, Jonathan Muddlemore (40) and his cat Boo hide in a clock. They soon find themselves trapped. He and the cat asphyxiate, and the clock's mystical nature causes Muddlemore's and the cat's essences to remain trapped within.
