  • On Corellia, the young scoundrel Han gets a hold of a bit of coaxium, which he hopes to use to escape Corellia and become a real pilot, alongside his love Qi'ra. While fleeing the forces of Lady Proxima, they make it to the spaceport. Han is able to use the coaxium to bribe himself into past a barrier, but Qi'ra is caught. Han, forced to escape, enlists in the Empire military. Asked for a surname, he adopts the word "Solo", as he feels lost and alone.13

1030 BCE

  • The Pharaoh Aknadin sacrifices 99 thieves in the town of Kul Elna. This is done in a rite that creates the seven Millennium items: the Puzzle, Eye, Rod, Ring, Scale, Key, and Necklace.
  • On the planet Mimban, Han Solo serves as a trooper in the Galactic Empire's attempt to conquer that world. Han notices the con man Tobias Beckett posing as an officer, and seeks to join the man's gang through blackmail in order to escape. Rather than accede to his wishes, Beckett reveals Han is a deserter. Shackled, Han is thrown into a cell with another prisoner, the Wookiee Chewbacca. After the two begin to fight, Han and Chewbacca devise a plan to escape. The pair make it to Beckett's fleeing ship, with Beckett liking Han's survival so much, he lets him join their gang after all.14
  • Beckett's gang attempts a train heist, trying to capture a shipment of coaxium on the planet Vandor. Beckett's crewmates Val and Rio Durant are killed, and the coaxium is lost. Beckett, Han, and Chewbacca go to the man they were working for, Crimson Dawn leader Dryden Vos. Han finds himself reunited with Qi'ra, who works as Vos's personal aide. Han bluffs his way into saving their lives, agreeing to get unrefined coaxium from the Kessel system, and get it refined as well. Vos gives them a chance, but insists that Qi'ra accompany them.15
  • Looking for a ship, Han and crew meet con artist Lando Calrissian. Han gambles everything in an attempt to procure Lando's ship, the Millennium Falcon, from him in a high-stakes sabacc game. Lando cheats and wins, but agrees to help out Han and crew for a share of the profits and the liberation of his ship from impounding. They are joined by Lando's droid friend, L3-37.16
  • Millennium Falcon reaches Kessel, and Han and associates are able to steal the coaxium by leading a slave revolt. L3-37, who glories in her work as a freedom fighter, is terminally damaged. Han and the others attempt to escape by shortening their distance through the Kessel Run, but things are complicated by an Imperial Star Destroyer, a massive cosmozoan life-form, and a singularity. By wiring L3-37's CPU into Falcon's computer, they supercharge the ship's navigation abilities. Falcon makes it through the Kessel Run in about twelve parsecs.17
  • Han and crew travel to the planet Savareen, where they begin the refinement of the coaxium. Lando departs with Millennium Falcon as soon as he is able. They are soon confronted by the Cloud Riders, the gang that had attacked them on Vandor. The Cloud Riders reveal themselves to be anti-Empire freedom fighters, and Han decides that they must give the coaxium to these rebels. Beckett departs, while Han, Qi'ra, and Chewbacca prepare to meet up with Dryden Vos.18
  • Han, Chewbacca, and Qi'ra present the refined coaxium to Dryden Vos, who, revealing Beckett has sold them out and told them of the potential ruse, threatens to kill them all. Han reveals that he had foreseen Beckett's betrayal, and that they had set it up so the Cloud Riders would defeat Vos's men. Beckett kills Vos's guards, then departs with Chewbacca as a hostage with the coaxium. Qi'ra kills Vos after he engages in battle with her and Han. Han departs Vos's ship to save Chewbacca, where he ends up shooting Beckett first. Qi'ra departs the planet with Vos's ship, leaving a sad Han behind, as she tells the Crimson Dawn's true leader, Darth Maul, of Vos's death.19
  • Running into Lando Calrissian again, Han Solo joins another sabacc tournament. This time taking Lando's cheating gizmo away, Han wins ownership of the Millennium Falcon.20
