Sculpted from clay by the Amazon Queen Hippolyta, the Olympian gods brought the child Diana to life. Diana excelled in her studies with the finest tutors and mentors, including the great warrior Antiope, becoming a brilliant leader and warrior. In the 1940s, when pilot Steve Trevor arrived in Themyscira, Diana competed to be the representative of the Amazons to Man's World, and won despite her mother's resistance. Dawning sacred gauntlets and the Lasso of Truth, Diana joined Steve in the outside world, finding herself caught up in the global struggle of World War II. Diana would join the heroic community of the time, including holding membership in the Justice Society. After getting pregnant, Diana retired for a time with Steve and their daughter on Paradise Island, but returned to heroic duty in the 1990s. She became a mentor to teen heroes and a mainstay of the Justice League. Her nature as a warrior and a symbol of peace often came into conflict. In the late 21st century, she retired again after the massacre of the superheroes.
